AOA opposes H.B. 1071 to protect patient safety in South Dakota
Last week, the AOA submitted a letter to the South Dakota House Health and Human Services Committee opposing H.B. 1071, which seeks to eliminate physician supervision requirements for physician assistants (PAs), allowing them to practice independently. The AOA emphasized the risks to patient safety due to PAs’ limited training compared to physicians and advocated for maintaining the physician-led team-based care model, which ensures high standards of care and patient safety.
Arizona Senate Bill 1623
The AOA and the Arizona Osteopathic Medical Association (AOMA) recently launched a grassroots campaign on Arizona Senate Bill 1623, which allocates crucial funding to expand graduate medical education (GME) slots. This funding is essential to address Arizona’s physician shortage, enhance training opportunities for future doctors and ensure access to high-quality care for patients across the state.
The AOA will continue to monitor state legislation in collaboration with our affiliates and take action when necessary.
